Goals

  • Design a riverside location in Unreal Engine set in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

  • Model three buildings and use them in Unreal Engine.

  • Utilize Unreal 5's terrain editor to create the terrain.


Gameplay Length:

About 20 minutes


Design Ideas:


The primary design concept involves creating a monastery site with two levels featuring a river that runs through it, forming a waterfall and pond due to elevation changes. This addition aims to address the water scarcity of River Raid mode locations, enhancing visual interest by incorporating varied terrain heights, ponds, and waterfalls.


Gameplay setting:


Key Setting: Open world focusing on the Fight, Exploration, and Limited Cover.

In River Raid mode, players can access the location from various directions with AI assistance.


The player's objective is to attack. Defensive elements like walls and towers are strategically placed at the bottom of the map for spotting and defense.


Loot Placement: Encourages players to traverse the level extensively. Water features provide options for avoiding damage.



Iteration

  • Constant adjustments to terrain and waterfall designs to accommodate leveling and overall layout changes.

  • Modify building angles to offer players a logical course of action.

  • Redesign one building on the map for improved gameplay dynamics.

Challenges Encountered:

  • Significant issues with a water plugin for river waterfall rendering.

  • Difficulties visualizing the river's condition and making necessary adjustments despite multiple attempts.


Modifications Made:

  • Ongoing adjustments to terrain and waterfall designs for improved layout and leveling.

  • Continued refinement of building angles to provide players with a more intuitive course of action.

  • Complete redesign of one building for enhanced gameplay dynamics.


Efforts are ongoing to overcome challenges with the water plugin, ensuring a visually appealing and engaging environment for players.
